Simple Sattvic Raw-Vegan Date Jam (Samyama-friendly)
Simple Sattvic Raw-Vegan Date Jam (Samyama-friendly)
This recipe is designed to yield a small batch, perfect for sharing between two or for a few servings on toast, nut-based yogurt, sweet-ganji, or as a dessert topping. The ratios are easily adjustable.

Ingredients

Equipment
- Small bowl for soaking
- Mini food processor or high-powered blender
Instructions
- Soak the Dates: Place the pitted dates in a small bowl. Pour the fruit juice over the dates.
- Goal: The dates should be mostly submerged. If they aren’t, add another teaspoon or two of juice.
- Time: Let them soak for about 15 to 30 minutes. If your dates are very soft, a quick 5-minute soak is enough to moisten them. If you’re short on time, you can use hot water (and drain it off before blending), but the juice soak adds more flavor.
2. Blend the Base: Transfer the soaked dates and half of the soaking juice into your blender.
- Blend until you achieve a thick, smooth, paste-like consistency. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed.
- If the mixture is too thick, add a tiny splash (1/2 teaspoon) of fruit juice or water until it reaches your desired “jam” texture.
3. Add Tang & Texture (Optional): Once the date base is smooth, add your fresh or frozen fruit (e.g., raspberries, blueberries).
- Add the lime/lemon juice (if using).
- For a smooth jam: Blend for another 30 seconds until the fruit is fully incorporated.
- For a chunky jam: Pulse the mixture a few times until the fruit is broken down but still has visible pieces.
4. Serve: The “jam” is ready to eat immediately! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It usually keeps well for 2–3 days.
Flavor Pairing Suggestions
- Pomegranate-Cherry Jam: Use pomegranate juice and frozen dark cherries. This offers a deep, slightly tart flavor.
- Mango-Cardamom Jam: Use mango juice and a small pinch of ground cardamom (a classic Sattvic spice) in the date blend. Skip the additional fruit, or use a few pieces of fresh, ripe mango.
- Blueberry-Orange Zest Jam: Use fresh orange juice, and add a few strands of organic orange zest along with fresh or frozen blueberries.
